Man sentenced to one year jail term for possession of Ethanol
A man who pleaded guilty of being in possession of 25 drums of ethanol has been sentenced to one year jail term by a Kibera Court.
Thirty two year old Joseph Mwangi however has the option of paying Ksh. 250,000 fine in order to secure his release.
Mwangi was arrested by detectives in Ruaka, Kiambu County with the 25 drums of ethanol in a lorry he was driving.
The ethanol drums were however concealed using 50 sacks of maize.
“The drums that were full to the brim with the chemical compound, had been carefully loaded into a lorry that he was driving and concealed using 50 sacks of maize, to create a false impression that he was transporting maize. However, detectives working on a tip-off intercepted the lorry in Ruaka, Kiambu County,” said the DCI.
Kibera Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Charles Mwaniki convicted the suspect to one year jail term on his own plea of guilty.
Mwaniki further ordered that the ethanol be forfeited to the state through the Kenya Revenue Authority.
Meanwhile, the lorry shall be released to its owner and the maize restored to the accused.
