Man snatches gun from police officer, shoots 4 people dead

A man in Kisumu County on Friday morning snatched a pistol from a traffic police officer and shot dead four people at the Kisumu Bus Park.

In the shooting spree, two people including a traffic police officer sustained serious injuries.

The traffic officer was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital. He was shot in the stomach. Another victim, a woman was shot on her thigh.

The shooter shot the officer when he was chasing after him before shooting a tout identified as Kasuku at Ahero stage.

He also shot a barber known as Daddy just 20 meters away from a police post at the bus park.

Eyewitnesses said the man was shooting those who tried to block his way.

John Ochieng a tout, said he was shooting people while running.

The man was later corned by the irate members of the public and lynched next to Fanana area. He was trying to escape through a hotel.

He wore gloves in his hands. Some members of the public said he had covered his face. The firearm has been recovered.

He also had two National Identity cards bearing different names. Kisumu Central OCPD Peter Katam and County police commander Samuel Anampiu have not picked their calls to comment on the matter.
