Man who set wife on fire arrested


A 50 year old man accused of setting ablaze his wife in Konin, Bomet County was yesterday evening arrested by Kericho based detectives.

Robert Kipkorir Tanui was arrested by detectives who were trailing him while boarding a matatu to an unknown destination.

Tanui is accused of burning his 34 year old wife Emmy Chepkoech Mitei after a domestic confrontation.

Police say that On the fateful night Tanui attacked the victim who was a Deputy Head Teacher of a local primary school and whom he had separated with for some time forcing her back to her father’s house.

“Armed with a container of petrol & a matchbox, the suspect marched into the victim’s house, showered the same on her before setting her ablaze and disappeared after locking the door from the outside,” said the police.

Neighbours who rushed in response to her screams managed to put out the fire which had extended to the rest of the house, rushing her to hospital with severe burns which she succumbed to on 7th October 2020.

Suspect is being processed for arraignment.
