Martha Koome Makes History As Kenya’s First Lady Chief Justice

President Uhuru Kenyatta has gazetted Justice Martha Koome as the Chief Justice of The Republic Of Kenya.

Uhuru gazetted Koome shortly after parliament approved her appointment.

The National Assembly unanimously approved Koome’s appointment after the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee recommended her approval.

“It is actually a tragedy that in this age and time, we are still talking of first woman this, first woman that. That is something that we should have left 30 years ago,” said Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo.

“And am hoping Mr. Speaker that we will not then hound the deputy out of office because she is a woman,” further stated Millie.

Koome who is going to become the first lady Chief Justice, has 33 years of legal experience with her.

She is also known as a defender of Human Rights with special bias to children.

Koome who beat nine other applicants will succeed David Maraga who left the office after reaching a retirement age.
