The mass prayer is set to commence at 9.00am and to be attended by various leaders from Homabay County including the governor.

Homabay County Disaster Management Director Eluid Onyango stated that families will be allowed to pick their bodies after the mass prayer.

” Postmoterm was carried out and now the families are free to pick their bodies after this mass prayer. At 7 am the bodies will leave the mortuary and taken to the ground behind Homabay Polytechnic. The function will start at 9am- 10:30,” said Onyango.

Onyango added that the function will be brief and will follow all the Covid -19 protocols.

“Since people lost their lives in water, we will not take much time because when kept for long, their condition might worsen. Covid-19 protocol to be adhered to,” he added.

After the prayer each family will pick their kin and bury the same day.

The 10 people died last week after a boat which was carrying 18 passengers capsized near Pier Beach

On Tuesday evening last week, a boat  which was carrying eighteen persons and was headed to Nduru Island in Suba North capsized at Pier beach.

The boat reportedly capsized due to the heavy loads it was carrying and the many passengers on board.
