Approximately seven bars have so far been closed in Mathare Sub County for defying the Covid-19 protocols in an operation launched two weeks ago.
Mathare Deputy County Commissioner Jacob Mwaura has stated that he will not relent on the various operations he has launched to arrest persons defying the Covid-19 protocols.
Mwaura says that the bar owners and operators have so far been arrested and arraigned in court.
“Those hotels and bars we found defying the protocols have all been closed. Most of the bars and hotels are in Huruma with very few being in Mathare area,” said Mwaura.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News, Mwaura says that at least nine matatus operating in the sub county have also been grounded after failing to comply with the rules.
He has also issued a stern warning against people holding disco matangas in the Mathare Sub-county adding that they are endangering people’s lives.
“We know that there are people who are holding these disco matangas in Mathare, some have already been arrested and some are evading the police net but we are on to them,” said Mwaura.
Dozens of bars have been shut and hundreds arrested across the country for defying the Covid-19 protocols.
Last week revelers in Nakuru battled police officers with beer bottles after they were found going against the protocols.
