Matatu Operators Defy Mass Action Calls, Pay For Parking
Confusion and division has rocked matatu operators in Nairobi with some defying their leaders directive of not to paying the new seasonal tickets charges that were imposed om them by the Nairobi County Government.
Parking offices were today packed to to the brim with various saccos like Chania paying for the respective matatus.
Yesterday matatu owners association chairman Simon Kimutai led other operators in protesting the new charges and at some point advised his members not to pay for the new charges.
‘‘We are paying loans for this vehicles how do expect me to do so when it has been impounded because of not paying for seasonal tickets, our leaders must be realistic sometimes,’’ a sacco attendant told Ghetto radio News.
But in an interview with Ghetto radio News , Parking director Tom Tinega accused Matatu operators of politicising the matter saying they are only implementing what was there in the Revenue Act 2013 but was never effected by governor Kidero’s regime.
‘’These charges were on Finance bill 2013 the same operators challenged the same in High court but court ruled in our favour they appealed the ruling was uphold so what else should we do , let them comply with the new charges.’’ Tinega said.
Tinega on the other hand said they will only obey court order on private cars.
