Matatu operators fight CBD ban in court

The matatu welfare association has taken Nairobi County government to court over its decision to move PSV vehicles out of town.

In a suit filed at the High Court today, the association indicated that it wants the status quo to remain on grounds that the new termini require innovation.

MOA Chairman Dickson Mbugua argues that the new termini are too small and squeezed to accomodate half of matatu in one Sacco.

Last year the Nairobi County government issued a circular implementing a gezette notice which indicated that all matatus carrying less than 60 passengers will be barred from entering CBD.

In the notice, all matatus accessing the CBD from Waiyaki Way or Uhuru Highway, Kipande Road and Limuru Road are to terminate at Murang’a Road or Fig Tree terminus A.

Vehicles using Juja Road, ar toe drop off passengers at the Ngara Road terminus, while the Jogoo Road ones will terminate at Muthurwa Market.
