Matatu owners Association has signed partnership deal with Ethics and Anti corruption Commission in a bid to curb corruption in the sector.

The partnership according to MOA Chief Executive Officer will see the two organizations formulate rules and regulations that will help curb corruption in the sector.

According to Mutheu, corruption in the transport sector is the major cause of road accidents in the country.

Mutheu says that one single matatu loses approximately Ksh. 3,000 to corrupt police officers every day.

“Corruption is number one leading cause of road carnage on the roads, One matatu loses approximately 3,000 shillings per day to corruption. We hope that this partnership will help curb that,” said Mutheu.

EACC to train operators

Pascal Mweu Director Investigations at EACC says that they will use the EACC Academy to train matatu operators on ways to eliminate corruption in the transport sector.

“We will assist the operators and also use the academy to train them on ways to ensure ethical behavior within the transport sector,” said Mweu.

Hundreds of people have lost their lives in the past few days to road carnages.

The latest tragedy being the Londiani accident that killed 52 people.
