It is more pain on passengers pockets this is after matatu operators declared that they will increase fares beginning tomorrow as the Finance Bill 2023 takes effect.

According to Matatu operators  all they will not bare the cost of fuel price increase alone and that they will subject it directly to the passengers.

“Gari haiwezi kimbia bila mafuta Kile serikali inafanya hii kwa kutojali mwananchi ,biashara yetu ni give and take so to customers they will have to pay more from tomorrow I mean this is business we have men and women  our leaders whom we elected to parliament to represent us but they ended doing nothing to rescue us from the punitive tax we must condemn that.” Matatu operator plying Babadogo-town route told Ghetto Radio News.

“Sisi tumechoka pia na bei za mafuta kuongezwa tunaomba serikali ijaribu bei ya mafuta iwe constant and affordable kwa Sababu hii nyongeza ya Kila siku is killing matatu business,we have other things like operational licence, seasonal tickets and other things to pay for not fuel alone but nobody is talking about that.” Another operator said.

EPRA on Fuel Prices

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory  Authority (EPRA) is expected to announce the renewed maximum fuel prices after President William Ruto assented the Finance Bill  2023.

The prices of fuel is expected to go up by about 10 shillings Per liter.

“Following the enactment into law of the finance Act 2023, we will on Friday 30th June 2023 announce renewed maximum petroleum pump prices,” reads EPRA a announcement.
