The Matatu Owners Association is now calling on the National Government to facilitate the construction of new stages after the completion of the Express Way project.
According to Matatu Owners Association Chairman Simon Kimutai they will stage another protest should the government fail to heed to their call.
Affected areas are Bunyala Road,Waiyaki Way and some parts of Mombasa Road towards Imara Daima.
“It should not seem that we are begging the government to do these, it is for the common good of mwananchi, and we are not going to be taken into circles on something that holds our livelihood,” Kimutai said.
“The government must ensure we have those stages so that we also avoid accidents that are being witnessed in these particular roads,” he added.
Last week the matatu operators in Westlands disrupted traffic as they protested the road’s design that displaced PSVs from their drop off and pick up points.
“The matatu protesters registered their concerns with respective agencies and the congestion has since been cleared,” police stated.
The police have however assured Kenyans of their protection even as the concerns raised by matatu operators are being addressed fully and a lasting solution sought.
“We assure all motorists and other road users that our officers are still on-site working to ensure free flow of traffic and security along the said route,” the police said in a statement.
