Nairobi chapter Law Society of Kenya council representative hopeful Shadrack Wambui has vowed to protect the rule of law and ensure the young lawyers effectively represented in the LSK.

Speaking on Wednesday, when he submitted his nomination papers, Wambui underscored that there is a need to bridge the gap so that the welfare of the young lawyers.

Wambui, who was flanged by a battery of lawyers, also took issue with three-year post admission requirement by judicial service commission for position of magistrate stating that the creteria is unlawful.

“Most lawyers are jobless because if the high standards are set by the JSC, unfortunately, they are young and they need a representative who can champion for the welfare…it is time we be categocal and move with speed to help young lawyers .” Wambui said.

He said that the current scuffle between executive and judiciary setting a negative precedence in the country equating President William Ruto’s recent utterance to an outright defiance of court order.

“We will not allow the judiciary to go back to the old era. We are lawyers and if we serve the public, we are not going to allow any corrupt judicial officers out to enrich themselves,” He remarked.

Wambui, at the same time, promised to ensure the society remains a strong voice for its members and the public as she committed to address the challenges of employment for lawyers.

The election has been set for February 22.

Wambui has a keen interest in legal aid as well as legal clinics, and offers pro bono legal services in Mathare, Kayole and Kibera slums.
