Mathare fall short to the City Stars, suffer first loss


CITY-STARS-GITHAREMathare United suffered their first loss after falling 2-0 to Visiting Nairobi City Stars who registered their first win in the Season Wednesday at the Nyayo Stadium.

Mathare’s  Unbeaten run was shaterred when Ezekiel Odera and Oscar Mbugua scored in either half to hand the Kawangware-based side their first victory of the season.

City Stars Coach John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla was delighted that his side showed a Spirited fight all through the match.

“It’s been an impressive match.We are now motivated ahead of the AFC Leopard’s match”

The Kawangware based side enjoyed a wonderful start when Ezekiel Odera scored off Jimmy Bageya’s cross after four minutes.

The Ugandan striker almost doubled the lead in the 19th minute partnering picking balls from Calvin Masawa by outsmarting Mathare United’s Obadiah Ndege and Harrison Mwendwa to the half-time mark.

City Stars picked up where they left off in in the second half and notched their second goal in the 62nd minute courtesy of Oscar Mbugua who took advantage of a napping Mathare defence to slot a thunderbolt past Robert Mboya.
