Mathare residents unite to mark peace day

Mathare residents on Friday came together to mark the annual peace day celebrations.

The celebrations which took place at Huruma grounds brought together residents, Administration police and KDF soldiers from the Moi airbase in Mathare.

The residents kicked off the celebrations from the Moi Airbase walking three kilometers to Huruma grounds.

Area deputy county commissioner Patrick Mwangi said they intend to hold such celebrations to promote peace in the area.

“This day was all about peace especially after witnessing peace in the area during the 2017 general elections which has not been the case in the previous election period. We intend to mobilize the residents and authorities annually to promote peace in the area.” he said

The International Day of Peace, sometimes unofficially known as World Peace Day, is a United Nations sanctioned holiday observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence
