A section of women from Mathare slums have condemned the reckless utterances by a section of politicians in the country.

The women under the umbrella Maendeleo ya Wanawake Movement say that careless utterances might trigger violence during the general elections.

Mary Mwai, Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Mathare Sub-County Leader says that violence triggered by the politicians mostly erupts in the slums.

“We are asking the politicians to ask for votes in peace because we know what we went through during the 2007/08 post-election violence,” said Mwai.

“And any time violence erupts, it is the women and children who are the most affected. So we are asking the politicians to as for votes in peace,” she said.

The women also want politicians to stop using words with bad history in the country.

“We want to counterattack some of the careless and clueless talks that we are getting from our politicians. I will give you and example of the word coackroaches in Rwanda… Linturi is you are man enough go and mention the word coackroach in a market in Rwanda and you will see what will happen to you,” said Anne Munio a Mandeleo Ya Wanawake member.
