Five key suspects linked to the Matungu killings in Kakamega County were arrested yesterday by the police.
Police say the five were arrested following an intelligence based operation that started in Kawangware and extended to Western region.
Police say they recovered machetes, knives and iron bars after a search in suspects’ houses.
The five are supposed to be arraigned in court on Monday.
“The intelligence based operation started in
#Kawangware & extended to Western Region and has so far led to the arrest of Five prime suspects who are pending to appear in court on Monday. Suspects’ houses searched & dangerous tools including Machetes,Knives, Iron bars confiscated,” said the DCI.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and former Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa were arrested on Friday in connection with the killings.
The two were however released on Sunday night following an order from the Director of Public Prosecution Nordin Haji.
Malala has stated that he will sue Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai over wrongful arrest.
