France secured a narrow 1-0 win over Austria with the teams captain Kylian Mbappé, suffering  a significant injury late in the game.

The incident occurred in the 84th minute when Mbappé collided with Austria’s Kevin Danso inside the penalty box.

The collision left Mbappé writhing in pain and bleeding profusely from his nose.

The severity of the injury was immediately apparent as medical staff rushed to treat the star player on the field.

French Football Federation Issues Statement

 

The French Football Federation released a statement via RMC Sport, confirming that while Mbappé has indeed suffered a broken nose, he will not require surgery and is expected to return to action soon.

 “Kylian Mbappé returns to the French team’s concentration. Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the second half of the Austria-France match played this Monday in Düsseldorf.

The France captain was first treated by medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a broken nose. The diagnosis was confirmed during X-ray examinations at the Düsseldorf hospital.

Kylian Mbappé has returned to the base camp of the French team. He will receive treatment in the coming days, but will not undergo surgery in the immediate future.

A mask will be made so that the number 10 of the French team can await his return to competition after a period dedicated to treatment.”

France, who are hoping to have their celebrated  captain back to the squad , will  to action on Friday against the Netherlands .

Their final Group D fixture is set to see them face Poland on June 25.
