Nairobi County Assembly Minority Whip who also doubles as Makongeni MCA Peter Anyule Imwatok has written to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and Director of Criminal Investigations to move with speed and investigate the ‘fictitious’ legal fees paid to lawyers by Nairobi City County Government.
In the letter Imwatok wants EACC to investigate and analyse cases handled by the lawyers and why a whopping Ksh. 410 million was paid, plus work done.
‘‘The action of the County government to pay the Lawyers therefore raises the following very fundamental questions and more specifically as had been indicated in your letter afore mentioned,”;1. Did the Nairobi City County Government provide to yourselves the Specific files handled by the Law Firms above including details of the cases, letters of instructions and contract agreements between the year 2013 and 2020 as requested by yourselves? Did the Nairobi City County Government provide all the payment vouchers and cheque counterfoils as requested by yourselves?’’ the letter reads in part.
According to Imwotok Acting governor of Nairobi must come clean and reveal how these payments were made.
‘‘There are now offering me money to keep quite I can’t take the money. Let us proceed to EACC and DCI so that everyone mentioned can exonerate himself legally but as opposition MCAs, we will do our role as stipulated in the constitution even if it means biting the last bullet,’’ he added.
‘‘TAKE NOTICE THAT should we not hear from yourselves within the next forty Eight (48) hours from the date of receipt of this epistle, then we shall be left with no option other than to instruct our advocates to proceed and seek appropriate legal remedy,’’ it continues.
