MCAs Fresh Bid To Oust Guyo, Imwatok From Assembly Leadership
Nairobi County Assembly leadership is now in trouble following the push by section of MCAs to change Standing Orders elbowing parties from appointing leaders at the assembly.
The changes were moved by Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi who felt agitated by ODM’s move to block them from removing Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok from Minority Whip position.
It has now emerged that the MCAs are now planning to use the new amendments remove majority and minority leadership without interference from the party with Imwatok and Guyo on their radar.
Oyugi wants members to be allowed to elect or remove their leaders without say from political parties or coalitions that sponsored them.
Another member who wants the Standing Orders reviewed to block parties is Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu.
‘‘It’s notified that pursuant to Standing Order 247 the Hon Antony Kiragu MCA purposes to move the following amendments to standing orders 20 of Nairobi City County Assembly Standing Orders,’’Kiragu said in a letter to the speaker.
The changes have been approved by Rules and Procedures Committee that was chaired by Majority leader Abdi Guyo.
Assembly is yet to approve the changes that will be a double sword to the troubled assembly.
