Hundreds of medical interns backed by Gen Z protesters flocked at Afya house on Monday to demand for paid internship , posting of medical interns and call for resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumincha for incompetency in office among other grievances.
According to them 60 days of negotiations between their union Kenya Medical Practitioners of Dentist Union (KMPDU) and the ministry had lapsed On Sunday adding that nothing has been fulfilled so far.
KMPDU Betray Intern Doctors
Earlier today there was confusion this is after a tweet by KMPDU alleged that there was no strike today but after pressure from the interns, KMPDU’s secretary general Dr. Davji Atellah posted on X platform that the strike was still on revealing that KMPDU’s X account had been hacked.

Dr Austin Odhiambo a yet to be posted medical intern said he had traveled all the way from Homabay county to join other medical doctors and occupy the ministry of health in Nairobi to air out their grievances but unfortunately the Ministry went on to close their doors and deprived them from their rights to be posted and issued licenses.
Saying no to Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and demand for NHIF.
The doctor urged the government to explain to Kenyans why NHIF was kicked out and ascertain whether its a case of incompetency or the whole scheme was a mistake.He further added that the ministry should adhere to their appeal and stop frustrating Kenyans who immensely need them for their medical purposes.
“We are asking the government to explain to Kenyans and create awareness for all households and why they are kicking out NHIF.”Odhiambo added.
Among other grievances included: pushing of Linda Mama programme,payment of all medical interns according to their previous salary scheme,saying no to Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and demanded for the improvement of the National Health Insurance Fund.

For close to two years now, the ministry has refused to place doctors for medical internship and issuing them with licenses.This has greatly affected and prohibited trained doctors into serving in their capacities., they now plead with the government through the Ministry of Health to facilitate the process as quickly as possible.
