Breast cancer has threatened to be a major epidemic considering the number of lives it has already claimed in the recent past. The numbers are horrifying. Terrible.
Early detection is the best news one can ever celebrate of after breast cancer diagnosis. However, the process of kicking the killer disease out might come with a the huge price of risking loosing both breasts for the rest of your life.
In the event of the latter situation,life without breasts can be daunting and not easy. One might contemplate wearing fake ones to enjoy the feel of having both breasts whilst the reality of having lost the real ones remains painful and haunting. But not with Shondia.
Shondia is a breast cancer survivor who beat all odds and emerged proud despite her situation . She has furtjer gone a step forward,dtarted her own organisation to help other breast cancer victim as well.
“I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36, December 23, 2010 shortly after my husband returned home from his second deployment. I had a bilateral mastectomy February 11, 2011. I decided not to have reconstruction surgery and not to wear breast prosthesis. Although I’m breastless, I’m very confident. I didn’t have any lumps, discomfort, or discharge. I had no symptoms of breast cancer. It was simply the Holy Spirit that whispered to me, “You need to get a mammogram!” I’m so thankful I was able to get one. Two weeks later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in both breasts! In my right breast, I had stage 0. I also had two different types of cancer in my right breast, DCIS and LCIS. In my left breast, I had DCIS and I had 2 stages of cancer. One area was stage 0 and another area was stage 1A, that was near a blood vessel! I was scared when I had breast cancer! But, I was never depressed or angry and I never will be! I’m on a mission to inspire people that are affected by cancer. I love sharing my testimony. I don’t miss those little cancerous breasts I had. I took care of them for 36 years and surprisingly, they decided to turn on me! However, my husband adores me without them. I think my breasts might be somewhere in a lab being studied! Perhaps, floating in a river! Either way, they’re gone and the cancer is gone too. Early detection is so important! I didn’t have to do chemotherapy or radiation. Also, my margins are clear and so is my mind! In the bible, 7 means completion and my onco type dx score was a 7. Therefore, I’m done with cancer! I am so thankful and I have so much respect, for my amazing medical team. Additionally, I will thank GOD everyday of my life for grace, mercy, and favor. Cancer messed with my breasts, but definitely not my self-esteem,” reads a section from her website boldandbreastless.com
Shondia has been beneath the waters until recently when her boldness sent her to a nude photoshoot and the photo below went viral.
Accompanying the nude photo ,was a super strong caption that read;
” I’m posting my pic again to show other ladies without breasts, that it’s really okay to be BREASTLESS!! I meet so many ladies that have a hard time dealing with the fact that they had to get their breasts removed and I want to motivate them. We survived breast cancer, so we have a whole lot to be thankful for!! Whether we have no breasts, wear prosthesis, had reconstructive surgery, or have one breast, we have LIFE!! We’re still beautiful regardless of how others stare at us, think about us, or talk about us!!
Thank you so much @mrdblanks for this “IMPLIED” nude look!! My husband loves this pic and he loves my scars and I love him!!
The cancer affected my breasts, not my self-esteem!! Now, isn’t she lovely?? YOU are too!! ??????.”
Shondia is happily married with kids.
