Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has caused quite a stir by naming a road after her husband Murega Baichu.

She took to socio media platforms to proudly share images of the road.

The road rehabilitation project is located in the Nyaki West Ward of the Imenti North Constituency and recently commenced.

“Murega Baichu Road Hakuna boiling tena,” Mwangaza captioned the photos.

This move comes just a year after Governor Kawira narrowly survived impeachment proceedings, during which she was accused of favoring her husband by granting him county jobs despite him not being elected to any public office.

Aaron Cheruiyot criticizes Kawira

Angry members of the County Assembly (MCAs) accused Governor Kawira of practicing nepotism then but Kawira denied the allegations.

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, has publicly criticized Governor Kawira for her decision to name the road after her husband.

He has stated that such actions undermine the principles of fairness, transparency, and impartiality that should govern public office.

“Kawira Mwangaza has simply followed in the ugly path taken by our nation’s founding fathers. I think we need a public nomenclature bill to guide the process of naming of Key public installations. Just not sure whether to start in 1963 or 2023,” he said
