- The event will be at Paris’ Theatre du Chatelet on October 30
- Messi has reportedly been informed of his victory.
Inter Miami’s star player and Argentina’s national team captain Lionel Messi is reportedly on the verge of clinching a historic eighth Ballon d’Or at the forthcoming awards ceremony in Paris.
The news follows the alleged leak of the 2023 Ballon d’Or winners, for both the male and female categories.
Messi’s path to the win was stamped when he led Argentina to World Cup victory in Qatar last year 2023.
Sources intimate that Messi has already been informed of his win ahead of the formal ceremony scheduled for October 30th in Paris.
If these reports are true, Messi will add an eighth Ballon d’Or to his already impressive collection, having previously won the prestigious accolade in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, and 2021.
If he wins, he will become the first player in the history of the award to secure the Ballon d’Or while not representing a European club, highlighting his global impact on the sport that he loves.
Meanwhile Messi’s former teammate, Kylian Mbappé, is also a prominent contender for the 2023 Ballon d’Or together with Erling Haaland.
This is what he said while interviewed by the Press with regards to winning trophies.
“I have said it many times, the Ballon d’Or is very important due to the recognition at the individual level, but I never gave it importance,” he said.
“The most important thing for me was always the awards at the group level. I was lucky to have achieved everything in my career and after the World Cup, I’m thinking about that award much less, my biggest award was that.” he added.
