Kenyan international Michael Olunga has been named as the Most Valuable Player in the Japanese top League.

The Harambee Stars player scored 28 goals for his team Kashiwa Reysol in the concluded season.

The team finished 7th in the league in their first season after gaining promotion.

This is the second time the former Tusker player was named most valuable player.

He won the Kenya Premier League Most Valuable player award while playing for Gor Mahia in 2015.

Olunga, who played 32 games for Kashiwa Reysol in the 2020 J1 season, also won the Golden Boot.

This was the first time an African player won the MVP in the J1-League.
