Mike Sonko Charged With Over 10 Counts Of Graft
Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been charged with 19 counts of graft including the the irregular procurement and payment of over Ksh. 357 Million.
Sonko was charged alongside eight other people believed to have benefited from the illegal tenders.
The Governor and his co-accused were charged with various graft related charges including conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, failure to comply with procurement laws, conflict of interest, abuse of office and unlawful acquisition of public property.
Apart from graft charges, Sonko has also been accused of money laundering and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
The eight people charged alongside Sonko include, former head of chain supply Peter Mwangangi ,Lawrence Mwangi of tender committee Mr Muriti, Hardy Limited directors, Jambo Pay chief executive officer Danson Muchemi, Peter Mbugua and Antonny Ombok popularly known us Jamal.
The governor is also expected to be taken to Voi to answer to charges of assault on Coast regional Commander Rashid Yakubu by kicking him on the thigh.
