President William has made a number of appointments and promotions within the military.
Major general Charles Muriu Kahariri was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant general.
Vice Chief of Defence Forces
He is also the new Vice Chief of Defence forces.

He replaced Lietenant General Jonah Mwangi Maina.
Mwangi retired from the service after serving for 42 years.
Ruto Confirms Ogolla Death
Meanwhile Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Francis Ogolla is dead.
This has been confirmed by President William Ruto at Statehouse Nairobi.
Ogolla died on Thursday afternoon after a chopper he was in crashed in Cheptulel West Pokot.
He has died aged 61.

He said the accident occured at 2.20pm.
“I’m deeply saddened to announce the passing on of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla,” the President said in an address to the nation.
Ogolla was appointed in April 2023 by President William Ruto.
Ogolla took over from Gen Robert Kibochi whose term ended.
Gen. Ogolla was previously the Commander of the Air Force and Vice Chief of Defence Forces
