Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been sentenced to 60 days in jail, or pay a fine of Sh. 250,000 for overseeing the demolition of private property in breach of a court order.

Environment and Land Court Judge, Sila Munyao, noted that the county boss demolished Mombasa tycoon Ashok Doshi’s perimeter wall in Changamwe on May 10, 2019, despite the existence of a court order barring the destruction.

The governor was, consequently, summoned to court, but failed to appear on multiple occasions.
Joho was accused of hiring 100 goons to bring down the sh.2 million wall.

Lady Justice Ann Omollo had, on March 6, 2019, granted Doshi protection against the destruction of his wall by the County Government of Mombasa over a land dispute.

Joho has been punished alongside Changamwe MCA Bernard Ogutu, who has been fined sh.20,000 or 14 days imprisonment.

Unlike Joho, Ogutu honoured court summons but was still found guilty of defying a court directive over his involvement in the demolition of Doshi’s perimeter wall.
