Much Awaited Dandora Stadium Re-opening Postponed
By Allan Otieno
Dandora Community members have called off the grand re-opening of the new Dandora Stadium following a consultative meeting with Nairobi county government officials.
The meeting was steered by County Secretary Jairus Musumba who pleaded with the community to give them one month to sort out the issue with Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to Stadium Chairman Godfrey Okoti Seke the county government will reach the commission to understand its view regarding investigations before engaging the contractor.
‘‘We had a very fruitful meeting and we have agreed to postpone the reopening by one month as advised by the county secretary but should they fail we shall have no option but to reopen it,’’ Seke said.
‘‘We have suffered enough and this is the last chance we are giving the county government because we don’t understand how they can choose to disobey the presidential order yet all our social activities stopped waiting for the completion of this stadium,’’ he added.
Dandora 4 MCA Francis Otieno Ngesa on the other hand called on Dandora residents to exercise patience before taking action.
‘‘As leaders we shall not disappoint you and for now we are pushing the government for the completion of this stadium. Tomorrow we shall have a community meeting at 8am where we will communicate the same to the people,’’ Ngesa said.
The community had vowed to re-open the stadium on 3rd this month blaming the county government for taking too long to complete it.
