The Muslim fraternity has distanced itself from claims of practicing FGM as a way of their culture.

Speaking at press briefing the deputy chief Kadhi Rashid Ali Omar has said that FGM has no basis in Islam and its a violation of the Islam religion law.

He added that it contravenes the objectives of Islam since it is life threatening and hinders the growth and protection of family.

The Muslim leaders have said they will work with the government to facilitate awareness on dangers of FGM.

They say they will keep campaigning against FGM until the practice is eradicated completely.
