Residents of Muthurwa Estate today stormed the Muthurwa Chief’s office to protest plans to vacate them and build a market where Marikiti traders will be relocated.

Addressing the media, Patrick Kamotho, the chairperson of Muthurwa Housing Cooperative said that this is against the lease of the land.

A lease of the Muthurwa Estate issued in 1969 states that the land should not be compromised until 2032.

The residents also accused the area chief of illegally registering outsiders as victims who should benefit from the land.

They want the chief to use locals to carry out the survey of affected people instead of strangers as the residents are familiar with each other.
