Mutura fires Sonko’s allies at city hall
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s close allies continue to bite the bullet with the latest casualty being Nairobi Liquor Board Chairman Kennedy Odhiambo alias Odhis.
Odhiambo who until last week was the Liquor Board Chairman was fired by the Acting Governor Benson Mutura and his place taken by Stephen Kimbi.
Odhis was a close aide to the governor who also doubled up as liquor boss.
All sub county liquor committee chairmen appointed by Sonko were also fired except Nathan Nzomo of Langata sub-county.
In an exclusive interview with Ghetto Radio News Kambi welcomed his appointment saying his first task will be to ensure that high standards and control of alcohol consumption in the city.
‘‘I am pleased with the move and my first task with my team will be the auditing all the licences so that we can ensure that there is a fair plan of business, and also what is being consumed is good to our health…But to ensure that, we must also enhance our sensitization programs,’’ Kambi said.
Langata sub-county liquor committee chairman Nathan Nzomo who was given another term to serve says that he is optimistic that his re-appointment was based on the job he has done in Langata.
‘‘I started the issue of rehabilitation 12 years ago through my organization known as Funzo Mashinani so I was not new in the job. We have worked closely with the former board and I hope that this will continue with the new team including area OCPD,DCC and my new chairman Stephen Kambi so that we can deliver,” he said.
“Langata is somehow a commercial centre but we have managed to control the alcohol consumption as well protecting peoples’ businesses using the law, ’’ he added.
