Kenyan Afro Pop Singer and the only female artist to land a nomination at the 2021 Bet Awards for Best Fan Base Award Nadia Mukami has cautioned up coming music stars from rushing to ink deals with recording lables without proper agreement and documentation.
The ‘Si Rahisi’ hit maker says she has had to struggle in order to produce and promote her music single handedly in order to have full control and ownership of her work.
The high flying Songstress recalled how she turned down a Ksh 4 million record deal stating that it would have weighed her down by loss of ownership in case of an endorsement.
Speaking to Dr. King’ori in the wicked edition comic show,Nadia maintained that she’s beyond being signed to a record label and advised artists to rethink deeply while getting into such deals.
“I don’t have a problem against with the people who run record labels as they are nice and genuine who can guide an artist through but kama huna lawyer,Kama hujapata mtu wa kukuguide through think ten times, wakikulipia audio na video wanaown your work in times of endorsement you can’t access your work. It’s an uphill task buying back the masters some will demand upto Ksh. 20 million, nahii economy yetu utatoa wapi 20 million”quipped Nadia.
“Unaweza still struggle ufanye uto tu video video twako ngoma inaweza blow na inabaki yako” She added.
