Nairobi County Government has given out Ksh. 116 Million to all county ECDE centers , funds geared to support day to day running of the centers and the feeding program.
According to Acting Governor Ann Kananu the free ECDE program is timely and will help grow the population of children in the ECDE centers.
“We have today launched free funds for ECDE whereby every child will get Ksh. 3,200 and for the special children each will get Ksh. 3,300,” she said.
County Executive Committee for Education Janet Ouko noted that there is positive response and more parents are encouraged to enroll their children in county ECDE centers following the free feeding program.
“Nairobi is the first county to role out this program and our population has grown from 13,000 to 30000..the center managers must have billboards written free ECDE and should anyone refuse to enroll a child because of money she will be kissing goodbye to her job.” Ouko added.
Nairobi county government has 205 ECDE centers in different primary schools and 27 stand alone centers.
