Nairobi County Assembly has launched investigations over allegations that governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s wife Primrose Mbuvi and his daughter Saumu Mbuvi spent Ksh. 2.4 million from the county’s coffers on a women conference held in New York City from 12th to 23rd March 2018.
Speaker Beatrice Elachi gave the Budget and Public Accounts Committee up to Wednesday to present a report over the matter.
“Honourable members this matter is serious and has seen the documents and the money that was allegedly spent was on the executive side. The PAC and budget committee do your investigations and report back to the assembly next week Wednesday but I also want to warn that the president’s name should not be drugged into these matter,” Elachi ordered.
Kitusuru MCA Alvin Palapala who through a statement requested the same on the floor of the house saying he has enough evidence to prove his sentiments.
“Primrose and Saumu went to New York and in my statement I have attached all the evidence to ascertain that the two used Ksh. 2.4 Million tax-payers’ money in this trip contrary to the law,” Palapala told the Media.
A letter dated 12th March by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua certified the attendance of Primrose and Saumu.
‘‘There is no objection for Mrs. Primrose Mwelu Nyamu and Ms Saumu Agnes Mbuvi to be included as part of Kenyan delegation to travel to New York, USA to attend the 62nd session of the commission on the status of women [CSW] 2018, scheduled to take place from 12th to 23rd March 2018.
Finance Officers who facilitated the payments are now expected to appear before Budget and PAC joint committees.
