Local Sports betting firm, Elitebet on Friday saw the unveiling of the company’s first Jackpot winner.

The Nairobi business man was all smiles as he received his check from Elitebet at a Nairobi Hotel.

Wanjiku said the largest amount of money he has ever won was Ksh 3000 and that he never dreamt of being a millionaire.

The delighted Wanjiku expressed his excitement saying that he would expand his mitumba (second hand clothes) business as money was the least of his problems at the moment.

He said “I have been selling second hand clothes at a stall in Nairobi and this win gives me a chance to expand my business”.

Wanjiku revealed that he invested 50 shillings in placing the 12 bets which saw him turn out to be the first Elitebet jackpot winner.

The conference was also attended by Brian Waluchio, the Chief Executive Officer of Oxygen8 Gaming, who urged players of sports betting games to play responsibly.

“I would like to urge all participants in Elitebet that this game is not an alternative to going out there and working hard to earn a living. We have had cases where people take out loans in order to bet and they end up losing their money. I would like to reiterate that sports betting should only be done for fun.”

Mr. Waluchio also added that Elitebet is keen to ensure that its players game responsibly and in this light they had set up a 24 hour call center in addition to other measures that can ensure responsible gaming. “We have also decided to set caps for players who bet very many times within a short period of time which is in line with our responsibility to encourage responsible gaming,”

Hinga Waiyaki, a senior executive at Elitebet said that in addition to the game being very convenient for players, it has an added advantage in that a player can play for the jackpot with a minimum of KES 50, in contrast to their market competitors who charge KES 100 for a chance to play the jackpot. “Elitebet also does not charge for SMS and we feel that this gives us an advantage over our competition,” he added.

Edwin Tarrus, another senior executive at Elitebet, took the opportunity to announce the new Elitebet jackpot. “This week the jackpot is 10 million shillings and this is a rollover amount which means that if nobody wins it this week, it will be rolled over to next week,” said Mr. Tarrus.
