Nairobi CBD Cleaners Down their Tools as they Demand Four Month Salary Arrears
Nairobi County workers cleaning the Nairobi CBD on Friday held protests demanding for their payments from City hall.
The group working under AGL company say they have not been paid for the last 4 months a move that has left them helpless during this Covid 19 period.
They claim several appeals to governor Mike Sonko to have them paid have failed leaving them with no options but demonstrate daily until their dues will be remitted.
‘‘Its now four months we don’t have money to eat ,pay rents and other needs yet we are working daily cleaning the whole CBD…this is unfair to us and our families who depend on us.’’ They said.
They have further criticized the county government and AGL company for not providing them with masks and protective gears .
‘‘We are exposed to this dangerous disease yet since it started we have never been issued with masks and even gloves ,’’ they added.
Meanwhile AGL director Derrick Aende has faulted the county for not paying the company for ten months now making it difficult to meet their obligations.
