Nairobi County Assembly has passed a motion to ban Street Parties and Reggae concerts in residential areas to what it terms as curbing immorality and protecting residents from noise and unnecessary noise disturbances.
The motion mover who also doubles as Majority Leader Peter Imwatok says reggae must just stop in residential areas to enhance peace in estates.He says the move will ensure residential areas are free from all immorality associated with street parties.
“Am very happy with my fellow MCAs for feeling the sense illegality verses people’s right…am a reggae fan but doing the same in residential areas is unlawful we have clubs is against the law and we must embrace that in totality.” Imwatok said.
“I happened to be also the Implementation Committee chair that means Nairobi County Government must now move with speed and unravel enforce this ban. They don’t have any choice but to ensure that is done so that we can protect our children.” he added.
Parents Reaction
Meanwhile the move has been conceived well by parents who describes it as a milestone and their children will now humble time to concentrate on their studies.
“The main concern was that we have children in our residential areas when you expose them then you will have moral decay, immorality and poor School performance. So it is indeed a solomonic move to have that kind of motion passed.” Charles Guda Kibra resident said.
“Reggae ni poa na kuweka concert Mtaani ndio sio fiti ..so is good we follow the law so that hata tukienjoy hakuna complains. ” Bruce Starehe resident added.
