Nairobi County Assembly To Probe Stalled Dandora Stadium Construction
Nairobi County Assembly will now probe why the Dandora Stadium project has stalled despite having budgetary allocations.
Dandora phase 4 MCA Francis Otieno Ngesa raised the matter through a statement in the floor of the house, demanding answers from executive.
According to Otieno they have allocated funds for the Dandora stadium and it was stopped abruptly without executive issuing any direction over the same.
‘‘Honourable speaker the county government has put the necesarry palns including budget for the construction of the Dandora Stadium with the view of benefiting the community and providing plartform for youth empowerment. The county government has commenced work and stalled midway for reasons not know to stakeholders, the chaiperson should inquire reasons for the stalling of the construction and steps being taken by executive’’ said Otieno.
Culture and sports committee will now probe the matter and report back to the house within two weeks.
The contractor left the site while work on the stadium was 80 percent done last September after being flagged by Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) officials for allegedly using sub-standard materials in construction.
More than 20 senior City Hall officials, including Sonko’s personal assistant Peter Kamau Mugo, county executives Allan Igambi (Finance), Lucia Mulwa (Education), Charles Kerich (Lands), and Pauline Kahiga (formerly Finance) have since been grilled over the stalled project.
