Nairobi County MCAs cause chaos at City Hall attempt to dethrone Speaker


Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi has condemned the attempted coup by MCAs allied to governor Mike Sonko to dethrone her and the entire jubilee leadership in the Assembly of Nairobi.

It is reported that goons among them MCAs allied to the governor and former majority leader Abdi Guyo armed with crude weapons invaded the Assembly at around 3:00 am on Thursday.

They group allegedly  tried to force themselves into City Hall a move that was repulsed by the sergeant at arms. At this point a section of MCAs allied to Elachi were already inside manning the Assembly precincts.
“It is a shame but we shall not allow them to use goons to interfere with correct leadership and business of this house…this place was under siege.” She said.
Police have also arrested former Clerk Jacob Ngwele who was in  possession of weapons and according to minority whip Peter Imwatok ,Ngwele was the one coordinating the alleged coup attempt.
“We slept In the assembly just to protect the assembly but we are aware Sonko is doing his best to ensure that the budget passes without NMS proper allocation. But we shall not allow.” He said.
Several youths who were caught in the skirmishes have also been  arrested.
