Nairobi County Government will now proceed to reposes the famous Makuti market land in South B after revelations that it was grabbed by Kiambu politician.
According to documents tabled before Nairobi County Assembly Planning Committee the property exchanged hands illegally.
Appearing before the committee, Planning CEC member SG Mwangi clarified that the property in question LR NO. 209/12612, belongs to Nairobi County Government and therefore to the public and that they will proceed immediately to reposes it.
“This happened when some of us were not in office and we can’t trace some documents but according to what we have we are in agreement that it belongs to the public I will therefore hand over the matter to the inspectorate team to reposes it back to the county.” Mwangi told the planning committee.
According to planning committee chairman Alvin Palapala they will not allow land grabbers to encroach into public utilities issuing a stern warning to grabbers that their days are numbered.
“We were brought a petition over this matter and according to what we have received Makuti land developer do not posses any legal document. We have agreed that the county proceed and reposes the same promptly.” Palapala said.
South B MCA Waithera Chege on her side termed the move as historical and a big win to South B residents who could not carry out their economic activities in the property.
“Of course it is a big win to my people at South B because you can imagine the livelihood that was affected by all these. We are asking the county to move with speed and reposes it immediately because that’s the only market place in my ward..I also want to ask the governor to build a new modern market in this property we dont have a single market in South B.” Waithera said.
Demonstrations
Recently South B residents took to the street to protest against the grabbing of the said land.
They said that the private developer has been using area security officials to put a structure especially at night.They vowed not to move an inch until justice is served.
“Hii shamba iko na historia ya kipekee wamejaribu mara kadhaa kuinyakua hii si mara ya kwanza but want to thank our leaders led by Waithera the area MCA for standing their ground against the grabbing of this property.” Eric Mulwa told Ghetto Radio News.
