The on-going demolition exercise of illegal structures on the riparian land along Nairobi river will continue despite complaints from affected members of the public.
According to Nairobi Regional commissioner William Kang’ethe Thuku the exercise is aimed at cleaning Nairobi River and it will continue as directed by the president and regeneration team of Nairobi city county.
In this year’s budget the national government allocated 800 million shillings for the cleaning of Nairobi river and mandated NEMA wih the task.
Affected individual have been calling for proper notifications before demolitions.
Most affected areas are Ngara which has more stalls along along the river,Mathare North,Dandora and Huruma having more illegal substandard buildings next to the river.
