Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko Impeached by MCAs
Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been Impeached. Out of the 122 a record number of 88 MCAs voted to send the flamboyant governor home.
“Eighty eight hon members voted to impeach the governor, 2 members abstained” Speaker Ben Mutura declared.
Motion mover Michael Ogada who also doubles as minority leader issued grounds for his impeachment asking senate to support Nairobians in sending the governor home.
He accused him of graft, abuse of office, mental incapacity and lack of integrity as stipulated in chapter 6 of constitution.
“This is a governor who diverted 297 million shillings bursary funds to to pay garbage collectors, he has refused to sign 2020 budget the county, NMS and all county assembly employees have not been paid two months salary and we are in a pandemic let’s send these man home..” Ogada said.
Majority leader Abdi Guyo accused Sonko of being incapacitated and running the county government as a personal property.
“I once went to his office to my surprise an ambassador was sitting at the lounge for two hours, when I went in I found him drinking alcohol with goons in fact thugs..he even said state house gave him concoction before signing a deed of transfer that created NMS. Can we trust this kind of a person?” Guyo posed.
“They have wasted a lot of time I said earlier that Mike Sonko is a joker and having to run this capital was the greatest mistakes,as alluded I want to state categorically that we cannot allow a corrupt and incompetent person to run this city let him go home,” Minority whip Peter Imwatok added.
