South B  Member of County Assembly Waithera Chege has now raised an  alarm over alleged mistreatment, sexual violence, massive bribery, extortion by the inspectorate officers  towards commercial sex workers a vice that needs to be tamed with immediate effect.

Speaking in the plenary the no-nonsense ward representative asserted that the county inspectorate officers have turned commercial sex workers into a cash cow instead of arresting them so that they can be charged as law demands.

She further raised concern over the way they are handled by the inspectorate officers citing serious human degradation contrary to Article 28 of the Constitution.

“The Constitution do not speak in vain it is very clear in Article 28 that every person deserve to be handled with dignity lest we are a banana republic. Article 49 also talks about the rights of arrested person and this is fundamental. Our officers must behave in and conduct their duties according to the law.’’ She told Ghetto Radio News.

Commercial Workers Views

In an exclusive interview with Ghetto Radio News Mary Mugure a sex worker who also chairs Bar Hostess Association says they have been maltreated  in several occasions by city inspectorate officers with some demanding bribes.She also complained of arbitrary arrests and other unspecified illegalities.

“Tunataka usaidizi kutoka kwa serikali haki tunadhulumiwa,tunashikwa ovyo ovyo wengine tunapigwa na tunaona hakuna justice kwa nchi yetu.’’ Mugure said.

Assembly Under Taking  

Meanwhile the assembly yesterday requested for few amendments to the statement after section of members led by majority leader Peter Imwatok raised concern over framing of the statement and whether it could wither assembly dignity contrary to the Standing Orders.

Speaker Ken Ng’ondi agreed with the statement but re-directed that it should be amended before tabling today.
