As Kenyans continue to mourn former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi ,county assemblies today held special sittings to show last respect to Kenyan icon who was a mentor to many.
At the Nairobi County Assembly, nominated Member of County Assembly Mary Ariviza narrated her shared moments with Moi.
Ariviza who went to school at Moi Girls Nairobi recalled how Moi found her at school gate alone and by surprise he stopped and greeted her and in turn gave her some huge amount of money to take to teachers and have lunch with her fellow students.
‘‘It was indeed a great shock, i saw his convoy and ran towards the gate where he saw me a alone and alighted..he then came out of the car with huge amount of money, he shook my hands and gave me the cash to take to teachers.’’ She said.
Later in the 1990s, Mary stated how she later participated in protests against Moi’s regime following assasination of the late Dr. Robert Ouko.
‘‘We schooled together with Ouko’s daughter and when people went to the streets I joined them at Valley Road together with other church members from Nairobi Pentecostal Church,’’ Mary said.
According to her Moi was an icon and an embodiment to many despite atrocities witnessed during his 24 years reign.
Moi will be buried at his Kabrak Home Nakuru county on Wednesday this week.
