Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok has written to the Director General Nairobi Metropolitans Services Mohammed Badi requesting him to issue a waiver for all county houses for the next three months a move he says will relieve tenants who have been hardly hit by Coronavirus pandemic.
Addressing the media Imwatok says those living in county houses are citizens at low class level and it will be a good gesture for the government to first consider them as the pandemic continues to take its economic toll.
‘‘We are requesting him to waive house rents for our county houses so that our tenants who live below standards can get a reprieve during this time more so those who pay below shilling 5000.’’ He said.
The county houses are located in Ngara,Kariokor,Kaloleni,Makongeni,Bahati,Hamza,Maringo,Jerico,Kariobangi,Ziwani ,Shauri Moyo,Ziwani,Carlifonia,Woodley Kenyatta among others.
Meanwhile, Landlords and Tenants Association Of Kenya has asked landlords not to harras their tenants but to be lenient on them at these trying times of the coronavirus pandemic.
The association secretary general Ben Liyai asked president Uhuru Kenyatta to promptly include Rent Compensation Package into the COVID 19 Bill 2020.
‘‘Mr. President order all financial institutions to enact six to twelve months moratorium to all the landlords serving loans,’’ Liyai said.
