According to the committee the waiver will ensure the institution continue getting water services without hitches as being experienced across the city.
Nairobi County Assembly Health Committee chairman Maurice Ochieng says water cartels have taken advantage of the situation threatening school heads with some political class also gaining millage on the same .
“We are experiencing perennial water problem in theses schools because of huge water bills that has accrued over the years so it’s making it difficult sometimes for the institutions to get water. Most of the time it’s on negotiated basis between the schools and Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company. This should be addressed.”He said.
“As you have heard we have water cartels who have taken advantage of the situation and are blackmailing the school heads….we have also have reports of imposters masquerading as officials from office of the governor blackmailing the heads that they have power to issue water at anytime or cut it off.Am urging my fellow MCAs to wake up and embrace this clarion call and support a motion that will ensure all water bills accrued by these learning institutions are waived 100%.We shall give it a permanent doze that will ensure the problem is cured.” He added.
