The Nairobi Metropolitan Services has rolled out construction of new 24 health centers in Nairobi slums to combat the effects of Coronavirus in the city.
Addressing the media when flagging off Cheza Clean phase two a coronavirus sensitization program, NMS boss Major General Mohammed Badi says they have completed 98 new boreholes to ensure that there is flow of water in most populated estates to enhance sanitation standards during the fight of Covid 19.
‘‘Over 10,000 cases of Covid 19 are from Nairobi and that is why we are improving sanitation in slums to avert further spread of this unfortunate pandemic… We have also increased our bed capacity at Mama Lucy Pumwani and Mbagathi Hospitals just to enhance our preparedness,’’ he said.
He further applauded Cheza Clean initiative program saying NMS will continue supporting such programs.
Jay Khamisi of Cheza Clean initiative however, raised concerns on rising of numbers of stigma on persons with Covid-19.
‘‘We shall be moving around to sensitize people on stigma , this is is a vice that is facing those who have turned Covid -19 positive and need an urgent address,’’ Khamisi stated.
Cheza Clean initiative is being championed by Parot Group, Shell,Ghetto Radio Limited in conjunction with Nairobi Metropolitan Services among other corporate entities.
Yesterday Kenya recorded the highest number of cases of Covid-19 with 796 people testing positive to the disease.
Total number of people who have tested positive to date now stands at 15, 601.
