Nairobi residents are expected to pay more taxes in the proposed Nairobi County Finance Bill 2023/2024.
In the new proposal the parking fee will go up by 100 shillings while all county rental house will go up by 10% in the new proposal.
Those who are preaching on street will have to pay 5000 shillings  annually for licence to do so.
Market traders will be paying 50 shillings daily up from current 30 shillings.

Winners in the Proposal

Those who will gain in the bill are churches and schools. They are slated to pay only 3000 shillings per year with an option of paying the same in quarters.
Those parking in CBD fro a short period of time will also benefit.Under the new proposal those parking for an hour will pay only 50 shillings and for 2 hours 100 shillings.

County Government Reaction

Meanwhile County Revenue Chief officer Wilson Gakuya has defended the bill saying it has a lot of benefit.
“This is just a proposal not a conclusion of it but we believe this will help us alot in realizing adequate development and better services to Nairobians.” Gakuya told the media.

Residents Reactions

Meanwhile Nairobi residents have called on the Nairobi County Assembly to ensure that what is passed do not add another burden to mwananchi who is already in economic pain following the enactment of controversial Finance Bill 2023 .
“We are in economic crisis na tunaumia kupitisha kitu kitatunyorosha Tena sio poa.Governor Sakaja should be mindful hatuko sawa tunaumia hizo ma charges mpya anajaribu kupush atusamehe nazo watu Wanaumia.” Wily Munga a trader said.
“The issue of increasing more taxes to give Nairobians more burden should have some breaks we are already wounded with the Kenya Kwanza Finance hii Sakaja isikam na Zake tumechoka sana to our MCAs please keep an eye and ensure you pass what is best for mwananchi.” Mwangi Kiarie told Ghetto Radio News.
The Bill is already in the County Assembly of Nairobi and it will undergo public participation as from tomorrow.
