Veteran rapper Nazizi Hirji hit the stage 9 months after the death of her beloved three year old son, Jazeel Adam who passed away on December 25, 2023.

Nazizi was a guest performer in Uganda last weekend in a show dubbed ‘Reggae On The Nile’ together with Wyre.

Never Thought She Could Perform Again

Taking to her Instagram, Nazizi shared a video of the performance affirming that she never thought she could perform again following her son’s demise.

During the tumultuous period, she noted that she couldn’t even listen to music.

“9 months of no music since my jiji left I couldn’t even listen to music leave alone be on a stage!!! I never thought I would perform again I have been in the darkest place!” she asserted partly.

While summing up, she thanked Uganda for the warm reception while also thanking her band mate, Wyre’s presence.

“Thank you Uganda, Kampala and Jinja massive you got my heart moving again! To me bredrin @wyredalovechild Thanks for always being there!” she summed up.

Nazizi and Wyre belted some of their classical tunes like Kenyan Boy/Kenyan Gal and Uprising among others.

The formidable pair also performed ‘Fire Anthem’ which originally featured Ugandan star Bebe Cool.

Surprisingly, Bebe Cool also turned up during one of their club performances and they mashed it up together.

Unfounded Stories

When Nazizi’s son died, there were unfounded stories that emerged alleging that her husband was on the phone leading to the accident.

According to Nazizi, this wasn’t true at all.

She revealed that the hotel they were staying had ample space and it was just an accident like any other.

She added that her husband was equally traumatized by it.

Nazizi was visiting his cousin, Jafarai who’s also an artist in Tanzania.

Nazizi’s father was also in Tanzania during that time.

At the time of the accident, Nazizi was away and was only informed when her son was rushed to the hospital.

Her son’s death came barely 15 years after losing her younger brother, Ferooz Hirji who died in an accident.

Welcome back the first lady of Hip hop.
