Nigerian police are investigating the death of Afrobeats singer Mohbad who passed away on 12 September aged 27.
Mohbad’s death has stirred up a mix of grief and controversy on social media, with many raising concerns of foul play.
Videos have resurfaced online ,some depicting alleged attacks on the musician.
In a statement signed by Nigeria Police Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi and shared on X, formerly Twitter, the law enforcement agency said it was “committed to a comprehensive investigation into this matter as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.
The governor of Lagos , Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has also shared a message on X ,saying He has been closely working behind the scenes with relevant authorities and is keenly following the ongoing investigations
‘ I have invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to join the investigation and widen the dragnet with inter-agency collaboration and use of best in class technology to unearth the truth.’’ read the statement
Adding on to that He says all those who have played any role whatsoever in any event leading to the death of MohBad will face the law.

The Nigerian Politician has also pleaded with persons with any vital information to come forward, assuring witness protection
‘’ I hereby plead with all those who may have vital information that may assist the investigation process to avail the investigating team with such.
I have also appealed to the investigating team to guarantee the confidentiality and protection of all witnesses who may come forward with vital information or indicative evidence that may assist the process.’’
The Police and the DSS have promised to brief the public on their efforts periodically. I also appeal to all friends and fans of the deceased to stay calm and refrain from making inflammary utterances and reaching prejudicial conclusions on this matter.
While mourning the death of Mohbad ,Naira Marley described him as “more than an artiste or signee but brother and dear friend” to him. He said this via his Instagram handle last Friday night, in a statement personally signed by him, on behalf of the Marlian Record label.
